Our Work

The Thermal Paper Industries Association takes up various causes and works to promote the industry at large. Some of our work is in the following areas :

Succeeded in clarifying the HSN Classification for imported printed thermal paper in India for import substitution and encouragement to local converters in the country.
Currently working closely with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to develop a standard for usage of thermal paper in India. This will improve the domestic industry and place it at par with global benchmarks, thus opening up various markets for export.
Proposition to set up a testing lab in collaboration with various government agencies to ensure availability of testing facilities. This standardized reporting mechanism and protocol will reduce the burden of false claims often made by dubious converters / manufacturers.

Launching initiatives for a transition road map to manufacture BPA (Bisphenol A) free thermal paper. This restriction is due to the harmful effects of BPA on human health and the environment. BPA free thermal paper is in compliance with EU norms and India will therefore be able to explore the European market. Read the notification here.

Protecting local manufacturers from cheap imports and dumping.
Since image development on thermal paper depends on the quality of the paper itself, lack of adequate regulations and technical specifics for imports are leading to poor quality of thermal paper.
Setting up testing and standards facility to regulate thermal paper manufactured in & imported into India.
Working for a separate classification of thermal sensitive paper with and amendment of the HSN Number as now the product is currently categorised as “Others.”
